My First Blender Experience

It's my first rendered blender project, following the course and I want to share my thoughts.

Introduction

As you may already know, I’ve been learning 3D modelling and of course I don’t just learn from random things.

I follow a course, I won’t say the course name.

In this blog post, I’ll share my thoughts about my first rendered Blender project.

Learning experience

Well, one thing I learned is that this is completely complex.

Short lol.

Joke enough.

It’s actually quite fun though.

This one took me around 3 weeks to complete.

For a simple project, why this long?

Uhm, this may sound like an excuse but my focus was on something else along the way and I spent most of my time there and kind of forgot about learning Blender for a bit.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I learned a lot about Blender and guess what, it’s still just the basic stuff.

I won’t go into detail about what exactly I learned, it’s long and you probably won’t read it anyway.

But to be honest, the biggest thing I learned is just how many small things there are to keep in mind even for something simple. Like moving around the scene, setting things up, and trying not to mess everything up while following along.

Goal

The goal of this project was to learn the basic concepts of Blender.

Things like rendering, keyboard shortcuts, mouse control, modeling, texturing and shading, all still at a basic level.

As you can see in the image of my rendered result above. Actually, let me show it again.

cake

Yeah, the postcard on the table has mirrored text, just assume it’s Russian and we move on.

Also, for some reason, the result was not exactly like in the course, but well what can I say, it’s still a good start.

Even though the goal was just to learn the basics, there were still a lot of things to remember and to be honest, I don’t really remember all of it yet.

I guess this is something that needs to be repeated throughout the learning journey to actually stick in my head.

The next course is learning character modeling.

Long term goal

My long term goal is to become a 3D artist, modeling characters and scenes, probably animation too if I can get the hang of it.

I mostly want to focus on character work, especially stylized characters.

It will probably take me a few years to get there.

But first, I need to learn the basics.

Because everything else is just built on top of that.

Final

This was a simple project to get me started with Blender.

I learned a lot and I’m excited to see what I can do next.

I will continue to post my progress and learnings here.

Thanks for reading!
